LANCASHIRE DAY EVENTS 2013

This is a list of events connected with the celebration of Lancashire Day 2013

Lancashire Day is Wednesday 27th November

As usual, FORL will write to the Queen, as Duke of Lancashire, in advance of Lancashire Day to send her loyal greeting on behalf of the people of Lancashire.


We usually receive a letter of thanks from Buckingham Palace.

 

Friday 22nd November

West Lancashire Heritage Association A lecture by Lizzie Jones entitled “Twenty Years of being somebody else” followed by a Hot Pot Supper at New Church House, Ormskirk Parish Church at 7.00 pm, supper at 8.30, with vegetarian option if notified.

Knott-End Working Men's Club The Over Wyre Cloggers present a Barn Dance & Hot Pot Supper in celebration of Lancashire Night featuring Liquidambar Ceilidh Band in aid of the RNLI at 7.30 pm.

Accrington Town Hall With the Phil Knight experience and special guest Les Bond, well known for his comedy song and verse.

This is a partially outdoor event. Including Stone the Crows Morris Dancers, other regional Morris Dancers, Croston Drumming Band.

Indoor stalls include: Dewlay cheese, Lancashire crisps and Bretherton Bakery. Hot pie and peas for sale, along with indoor tables (bookable) for traditional Sunday lunch.

East Lancashire Railway, Bolton Street, Bury

The retail shop will be selling red roses and our buffets will stock Lancashire Eccles and Chorley Cakes. The Trackside will be selling home made Lancashire hot pot with red cabbage and a selection of locally brewed real ales.

We also hope to have the Bacup Coconutters and the Horwich Morris Dancers.

Sidmouth Lancastrians Association A lunch of Lancashire Hot Pot will be held at the Victoria Hotel, Sidmouth at 12.15 for 1.00 o’clock

The Proclamation will be read and there will be a speaker.

Friends of Fleetwood Museum will hold their annual Lancashire Night at 7.30 pm.

The event will take place at the Strawberry Gardens Hotel, Poulton Road, Fleetwood.

There will be a hot pot supper, Lancashire songs and dialect poetry, Lancashire and Fleetwood quizzes and general tomfoolery.

Standish Community Forum

There will be an official opening ceremony for a recently completed refurbishment of the entrance to a local housing development at the Cutting, Wigan Road, Standish.

This will be followed by the reading of the Lancashire Day Proclamation and the laying of a red rose.

The ceremony will commence at 11.00 am.

Lancashire Constabulary Veterans will be holding a Hot Pot lunch at the Plough at Staining Blackpool

This is a private function.

The Friends of the Museum of Lancashire celebrate with a 'Lancashire Neet' held at the Museum. from 7.30 pm. The Vice Chairman of Lancashire County Council, County Councillor Kevin Ellard will be the Chief Guest and will read the Lancashire Proclamation and later propose the Loyal Toast. Syd Calderbank, folk singer and story teller, will provide the entertainment and a Hot Pot supper will be served.

The Freemen of Hale will be holding their Lancashire Evening on Wednesday the 27th of November at the Wellington Hotel, Hale, near Liverpool; and the flag of Lancashire will be flown on flagpoles in the village.

Roe Green's Lancashire Day Celebration is to be held at Roe Green Cricket Club from 7.00 pm. The tickets are £7.00 each and the evening includes entertainment from Turnpike, a Folk Group, and supper of Lancashire Hotpot and Black Pudding with appropriate accompaniments.

The proclamation will be read prior to the Loyal Toast to Her Majesty the Queen, Duke of Lancaster at 9.00 pm.

Coniston Twinning Association A traditional Lancashire supper at 7.30 pm at the Coniston Institute to celebrate Coniston still being in Lancashire.

Saturday 30th November

In Nelson town centre celebration of Lancashire Day with traditional Lancashire entertainment and stalls selling Lancashire ware, crafts and food. The Town Crier will be reading the Proclamation on the hour every hour between 11.00 am and 6.00 pm. Family History drop in event in the library with a workshop on the life of the town of Nelson.

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.30 pm

Skelmersdale Cricket Club Blaguegate Lane, Lathom, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, WN8 8TY

A Lancashire Night in aid of the Mayoress’s Charities – Queenscourt Hospice and West Lancs Stroke Association - 7.30 pm.

The band “T’Others”, a great Lancashire Band, will be playing and amusing us throughout the evening.
