Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November

At Marsh Mill Windmill, Thornton Cleveleys - 11.00am to 3.00pm each day there will be an exhibition to promote Lancashire Day and the history of Lancashire. Tea room and gift shop open with tours of this working windmill.

Monday 24th to Friday 28th November

Thornton Library, Victoria Road East, Thornton Cleveleys. Exhibition and events to celebrate Lancashire and Lancashire Day with reading of the Proclamation on Lancashire Day. Contact 01253 869138 for details.

Chadderton Lancashire Day Eve Celebration - Proclamation read on Town Hall steps at 1.00pm followed by procession through the town centre with the Town Crier, Chadderton Standard Bearer, St George’s Flag, Lancashire Flag and retinue of members wearing the Red Rose - wishing everyone a happy Lancashire Day - leaflet distribution with lollypops for the children. A Further reading of the Proclamation at the Asda Store.

CELEBRATING LANCASHIRE DAY
Demonstration by Ann Farnell showing a variety of dishes using ingredients from around Lancashire.

MYTHS & LEGENDS OF OLD LANCASHIRE
Stephen Sartin brings together a collection of myths and legends of old
Lancashire. Some real, some romanticised beyond belief. Fully illustrated
course with slides taken from historical sources.

SOME EAST LANCASHIRE CHARACTERS
Cliff Astin with tales of characters who were all one time inhabitants of
Accrington, Blackburn or Burnley. Some 'top of their tree' others destitute

Great Crosby - Crosby Rotary Club will celebrate both Lancashire Day and Thanksgiving at the Northern Club with a meal followed by the Loyal Toast and an address by a speaker.

Hale - Lancashire most southerly Village - The Freemen are planning to hold a Lancashire Night for members.

Rochdale - Edwin Waugh Dialect Society will mount an exhibition of dialect poetry at the Wheatsheaf Library in the town centre until Saturday 29th. On Lancashire Day there will be readings and recitations of dialect poetry during the day and a reading of the Proclamation at 1.00pm. The above are those Lancashire Day events that we are aware of at the beginning of November, there will be many more.

Thanksgiving Day in America usually falls on the last Thursday in November and this year co-incides with Lancashire Day. Miles Standish was a military man who sailed to America with the Pilgrim Fathers in 1620. It is believed that he may have been connected with the Standish area of Lancashire. There will be an article about him in The Lancastrian 2009.

We are planning to give out leaflets in Warrington town centre and in Widnes near to the market on the Saturday prior to Lancashire Day to let local people know that they still live in Lancashire.Unfortunately, some living in these Lancashire towns imagine that they live in Cheshire.

Bolton Council has unanimously passed a resolution to encourage people in the town to support the celebration of Lancashire Day.

FORL will be presenting a Red Rose to the Mayor of Bolton at the Town Hall on Lancashire Day.
